Day 2: Tarangire National Park
Today we travel to Tarangire National Park, for excellent game viewing. Here you’ll find a diverse geologic landscape, with nine distinct vegetation zones. Ancient Baobab trees dot the landscape dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. Tarangire comes alive as wildlife and birdlife congregate on the Tarangire River. It also has the world’s largest elephant population. In the evening it is possible hike to top of Sangaiwe hill to watch the sunset.
Dinner and overnight at Sangaiwe Tented Lodge : Full board.
Day 3: Maasai Village/Manyara National Park
In the morning we visit an inhabited Massai village and take part in their daily activities. Afterward we have an opportunity for a cultural exchange with the chief and one of his wives. Then we head to Lake Manyara National Park with a picnic lunch, for a game drive or bike ride. This is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks but still offers a rewarding and diverse safari experience. The lakeshore at Manyara teems with bird life. The striking cliffs on the Rift escarpment form a dramatic backdrop.
Dinner and overnight at Kitela Lodge , Full board
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater.
Today we get up early to go to Ngorongoro Crater rim. Ngorongoro is a special place in that it is a Conservation Area, not a National Park; this means that the whole area is managed for both the animals and the local Masai people who graze their cattle alongside the indigenous wildlife. We drive around the rim of the Crater and can look down and see the herds of wildebeest or buffaloes. Finally we descend into the crater. The crater walls provide a natural sanctuary for the animals. This extinct volcano embraces 100 square miles alive with lions, leopards, rhino, and elephant. In the afternoon we ascend traveling across the Ngorongoro Highlands for enroute game drive as we head to Serengeti. Here we may see lion, cheetah or the elusive leopard along the way, as well as antelope and other gentle herbivores.
Dinner and overnight at Kubu-Kubu: Full board
Day 5: Northern Serengeti National Park:
We have a full day in this wonderful park, rising early to make the most of our time. We can spend time at the Hippo pool watching these majestic animals laze about in the cool water happily living alongside the crocodiles, watch a big pride of lions, be in the middle of the migration, sometimes surrounded by wildebeest and zebras, which travel with the wildebeest. We journey from the wide open plains to the kopjes: these volcanic rocky outcrops provide protection and shelter for a wide variety of animals. From the top we can look out across the vast grasslands of the Serengeti. This diverse landscape will provide us with the ultimate in game viewing, as well as interesting bird life, from the elegant secretary birds to the flightless ostrich. We make our way north to the Mara River Area.
Dinner and overnight at Acacia Tented Camp: Full board.
Day 6: Northern Serengeti National Park:
After breakfast, we leave with picnic lunch to the Mara River for a game drive searching for the migration. While hoping to see the wildebeest crossing, we explore a wealth of animals and birds that are frequently along the river.
Dinner and overnight at Tanzania Bush Camp: Full board.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park:
We continue exploring along the river and then make our way back from the north and spend the rest of the afternoon game viewing in the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. There are always plenty of resident animals, such as giraffe, buffalo, and elephant, and many large predators such as lion, cheetah, and leopard.
Dinner and overnight at Acacia Tented Camp, Serengeti Wildlands Camp: Full board
Day 8: Serengeti National Park:
After breakfast, we leave with picnic lunch and spend the morning on the vast plains that are broken only by stands of acacia trees and the occasional kopje. Day 9: Hadzabe and Datoga Tribes.
A visit to the Hadzabe is a step back to ancient times. They live in nomadic family tribes and dress in traditional animal skins. We will visit their encampment and have the opportunity to watch them prepare for a hunt. Then we will observe them heading off with bows and poison arrows. Upon their return, if they are successful, we can watch them cook their kill, followed by participating in a celebratory dance.
